The entire construction project begins with desktop studies where information is gathered from various sources such as geological survey, historical records from local authorities and even a site walkover. Based on the information gathered, a conceptual model of the site is built and used for further analysis. Based out of Newark and Mansfield, Redbrick has been carrying out desktop studies in the East Midlands, Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire.
The first stage in any investigation is a desktop study. As implied by the name, the purpose of the study is to determine the conceptual site model. This will, in turn, identify the probable geological nature of the site, as well as determine any probable causes of contamination. The techniques we would use include a site walkover as well as investigation of historical and geological records.
• Site walkover
• Assessment of historical records
• Assessment of geological maps
• Investigation into previous land use
• Record photographs
